Episode summary by Singapore TV

According to the Children's Society which received and counselled cases of Juvenile Self mutilators, the numbers have increased from 2 in 1997 to 14 in 2003. What's more, in 1997, the self-mutilators were from the 14-16 age group but now they come from the 12-14 age group. Some teenagers like Jenny, Carol and Theresa slash themselves because they think it's cool. But as their experience showed, self-mutilation could also get out of hand.

Another person who slashes herself is 23-year-old Roza. Since 13, she would slash herself whenever she felt depressed. Like most self-mutilators, Roza finds that when she hurts herself, she's able to deal with her depression, anger and helplessness. In these instances, mutilation implies that there is a much deeper psychological problem.

And there is another group of Mutilators - those who indulge in Sado-masochistic activities. These include men like Lionel who gets sexual pleasure from pain. Psychologists have said, even though on the surface, Lionel's activities may not appear destructive as it doesn't affect the other areas of his life, it is a sign he is suffering from a mental disorder and should seek help.

In Tab Chat, Kim Wakerman, Kid's Central Celebrity tells us about her friends who slash themselves for fun. Other guests include Carol Balhetchet from the Children's Society and Dr Ken Ung, a Psychiatrist.
