Episode 206: East vs West

First aired: Thursday, October 18, 2007, 10:00 pm
Episode summary by Singapore TV

Figures from the Singapore Department of Statistics show that the number of Singapore Chinese women marrying Caucasian men increased by 85% between 2005 and 1995. Experts have said that the main reason for this is because Singapore's a Cosmopolitan society. One where there're people from many different cultures living together. English is also widely spoken here and this makes it easier for such relationships to blossom.

Besides today, there's a lot less stigma or taboo for inter-racial marriages. But are these the only reasons?

Tab TV chats with "Suzie" a girl who fits the stereotypical definition of a Sarong Party Girl and who even taxi drivers straightaway asks if she dates only Caucasian men. We also chat with Priscilia Chan, a MediaCorp Actress who feels more comfortable with Asian men and Singapore Idol 2 Finalist, Jay Lim a Singapore Chinese male.

I am glad that the term SPG was properly defined.

I happen to be one girl that just prefer foreigners to our local men.

I do not think of our local men as inadequate in anyway, in fact some of my closest pals are Singaporeans..

I just happen to click on a more emotional level with foreigners because they seem to be a lot LESS "narrow minded" when it comes to life, love and yes .. even sex..

And I guess as a result, I tend to attract more foreigners than locals .. which might probably result in my perceptions being a little skewed..

Well, just my 2 cents worth.
